World Waternet receives funds from Aqua For All for water quality improvement in Mali

World Waternet received funds from Aqua For All (under VIA Water programme) for the project GeoWaQu @SOMAGEP (Geolocating Water Quality for Performance Improvement in Mali).

La Société Malienne de Gestion de l'Eau Potable (SOMAGEP-SA) is the public Malian Potable Water Management Company. The task of SOMAGEP-SA is to ensure drinking water production and distribution throughout the national territory. The Central Laboratory Department (CLD) of SOMAGEP-SA has the task to check and safeguard the water quality. Since October 2016, SOMAGEP-SA and WATERNET are engaged into a Water Operators Partnership (WOP) that focuses on the improvement of the Laboratory of SOMAGEP-SA : Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), work safety, training & coaching of operations and maintenance of the laboratory. We are working towards a ISO-certification in 2019, so that the SOMAGEP-SA laboratory can assure quality of their results towards its customers.

Together with AKVO, we will work on a quicker and cheaper model for water quality data gathering. This is done with the tool AKVO-flow, which can register over 250 sample points in Bamako alone. The tool AKVO-Caddisfly is still being developed and can easily assess water quality based on a few essential parameters. With AKVO-Caddisfly, pollution can be detected faster, resulting in an improvement of the reliability and drinking water quality.
